The Yankees dropped the first game of their American League Wildcard series against the Boston Red Sox after manager Aaron Boone removed starting pitcher Max Fried with one out in the 7th inning and the Sox proceeded to quickly score the winning runs off reliever Luke Weaver. Dan thinks it was a mistake to pull Fried when he did and that Boone needs to stop relying so heavily on analytics, especially in the playoffs.
Dan Patrick: “I would’ve stayed with Max Fried. So, I was on record as saying, ‘OK, he’s struggled, he’s allowed a baserunner every inning, at least one, but he is in the (game).’ Like, if you said you’re turning the game over to John Wetteland and Mariano Rivera I’d go, ‘Get him out of there!’ But you’re not. That bullpen is not good and all of a sudden, I’m going, ‘Gonna outmanage himself again.’”
