FLORIDA - A recent study by WalletHub ranks Florida as one of the top 15 most expensive states for child care in 2025.

According to the study, married couples in Florida could spend over 13% of their household income on child care, while single parents may spend up to 51%.

WalletHub’s analysis is based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau and Child Care Aware, focusing on both family-based and center-based child care costs, adjusted by median income.

For married couples, Florida ranks 13th in the country for child care costs.

On average, married couples in the state spend about 8% to 10% of their income on child care.

In comparison, the cost for married couples in New York is higher, with families spending 11% to 12% of their income.

For single-parent households, Florida ranks 35th, with costs typically ranging from 24% to 28% of their income.

The cost of child care in Florida depends on factors such as the child's age and the type of care.

In-home care for infants averages $740 per month, while preschool care costs around $650 per month.

Center-based child care costs are higher, with infant care averaging $1,000 per month.

Low-income families in Florida may qualify for assistance programs such as the School Readiness Program, which provides subsidies for child care.

Florida also offers a free voluntary pre-kindergarten program for 4-year-olds, providing additional support to families in need.
