Navarre Beach, FL - A dead pregnant great white shark, estimated to be 13-15 feet long, washed ashore on a Florida Beach on Friday.
According to the Navarre Beach Fire Rescue, the cause of the shark's death remains unknown, although authorities did find hooks in the shark's mouth.
The carcass was removed from Navarre beach and is being investigated further.
Marine biologists often track the movement of great white sharks through research initiatives like OCEARCH.
Dr. Harley Newton, Chief Scientist and Veterinarian for OCEARCH, say these studies provide valuable insights into migration patterns, preferred habitats, and feeding habits of great whites.
Great white sharks typically migrate along the U.S. East Coast, skirting Florida, before wintering in the Gulf of Mexico.
This annual trek allows scientists to better understand their behavior and conservation needs.
