Dog-lovers and Florida drivers can celebrate National Dog Week September 20th through 27th and support K-9 crime fighters at the same time.
K9s United, a Florida nonprofit that supports law enforcement K-9s that protect and serve our communities, is encouraging Floridiansย to pre-order a new K9s United specialty license plate where $25 from each plate sold will aid canine crime fighters through paws-on training, equipment and lobbying for better legislation to protect K-9s in the field.
Currently, K9s United is nearly halfway to its goal and the nonprofit says they must meet the state requirement of 3,000 plates sold by October 15th in order to be produced and offered statewide.
Why This Matters:
- Many law enforcement agencies do not have the funding needed to provide their K-9 units with the vital resources they require, including advanced training, equipment and kennels, vehicle heat alarms, bulletproof vests, and other large health expenses.
- Funding received from the specialty license plate will also help K9s United pass additional life-saving legislation to help other working K-9s that put their lives on the line for their communities. Recent legislation successes include:
- Increased penalties for those who harm law enforcement K-9s.
- EMS transportation of injured K-9s, like K-9 Huk who was recently airlifted to an emergency vet to receive life-saving care
