Opening Statements Underway In "Ghost Candidate" Election Scheme Trial

Opening statements underway in the criminal trial of former Miami-Dade State Senator Frank Artiles, who's accused of hiring a ghost candidate to confuse voters. His attorney Frank Quintero says no one can break Florida elections laws. Artiles is accused of paying Alex Rodriguez nearly 45-thousand-dollars to run in 2020 against Democratic incumbent Jose Rodriguez in a vote siphoning scheme. He pleaded guilty and is expected to testify against Artiles who faces up to twenty years if convicted.
